Serendipity At Work

May 14, 2018

If you’ve been reading my posts, you’ll know that I’ve been traveling frequently to see and hear Lizz Wright sing.

It is one great joy of mine. When I listen to her, it sparks ideas and emotions within me and influences my creativity. Her voice, words, music, style of singing, songwriting, artistry, and her very essence continue to inspire me in various ways.

We have known about each other for nearly four years now, ever since I went to Madison, Wisconsin, to see and hear her sing for the first time, to give her a song (Lizz Wright: The Sweet Honey In The Rock) I wrote about her, and to give her a digital frame with some songs and a “Seattle Bouquet” (macro shots of flowers I had taken around the Seattle area) on it. Those things were tokens of my appreciation and affection for her. I was so taken by her then and I still am. I told her about my website, the first post that I had just written about her (Lizz Wright: Doing One Thing Really Well), and how to contact me if she ever needed to.

That day in Madison, she and Rachel (a talented piano player) were walking North toward that triangular building on the corner (in the picture above), and I was walking West, away from the Capitol, toward that same corner. I was walking back to my hotel to get ready to go to the show. I assume she and Rachel were doing the same thing.

When I was about 10 steps from the corner, I suddenly saw Lizz walking across the street, about 10 steps from the same corner I was headed for. We would have met right at the corner had not that group of 5-7 people rushed right in front of me to get across the street before the light changed. I then had to go around them and catch up to Lizz from behind, which I did.

Sona Jobarteh in Atlanta

May 13, 2018

The picture above, is a picture I took at the Rialto Center for the Arts, in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, this past April 29, of  Sona Jobarteh, a musician and singer from The Gambia in West Africa.

She plays the Kora, a 21-string instrument, and she sings while she plays.

That’s so amazing to me that she can do that. It’s like rubbing your belly at the same time you’re patting your head, only 1000x harder, I surmise. Don’t you agree?

I’m inside the Center lobby, waiting for the doors to open so we can all be seated.

LiZ2: That Certain Something

November 14, 2017

I’ve been listening to Lizz (LiZ2) Wright’s new CD, “GRACE”, non-stop, since it was released.

I just love it. 💖

It’s been slightly over three years since I first became aware of her and her music. I’ve been following her ever since.

She tours overseas and in the U.S., all year long, sprinkling her musical 🎶 magic  in the hearts of everyone, in every town, she flutters by.

If I could, somehow, be everywhere that she sings, and listen to her every time, I would. She means a lot to me and I never tire of seeing and hearing her sing.

A LITTLE LOST

October 30, 2017

In a previous post, called “Shhhh! Genius At Work! (unearthing her GRACE)”, I wrote about my recent trip to the East Coast to see and hear Lizz Wright sing in Massachusetts. She was kicking off a tour to promote the release of her new CD called, “GRACE”.

( By the way, if you haven’t heard it yet, you’re missing out on a really good thing. You can find it on Amazon or iTunes.)

Anyway, in that post, I mentioned that while I was driving to the Rockport, Massachusetts venue, listening to “GRACE”, I was enjoying Lizz’s new music so much I missed my turn to Rockport and I suddenly saw a sign that said “Welcome To New Hampshire”.

So after I corrected my course and was heading toward Massachusetts again, I had to laugh and I thought to myself, “I get a little lost in her (Lizz), sometimes.”

I get in a kind of dreamy state of mind when I listen to her music. She is and will always be my favorite singer.

Then I thought that sounded like a good title for a song.

I get a little lost in you“, or “I get a little lost“, or something similar to that.

So, I have been thinking about that ever since then, and just two days ago I wrote the song.

But I decided to call it, simply, A Little Lost“. (The song is at the bottom of this post.)

Shhhh! Genius At Work! (unearthing her GRACE)

September 24, 2017

I don’t say that facetiously, even in the slightest. I mean it sincerely. She is a musical genius and she has done it again, for the 6th time, with “Grace” and dignity. I love all her albums equally.

SWEET RELEASE

Lizz just kicked off a tour, starting in New York, to promote and celebrate the release of her new CD, GRACE”, her 6th album. And what a s-w-e-e-t release it is.

((Click on the link above (go for the gold!), and follow the directions to listen to her new CD. There is also a great review of Lizz by Jewly Hight on the same page if you want to know more about Lizz.))

From the interesting and varied selection of songs she chose for the new CD, to the oh-so unique and authentic way of singing that only she can render with such dignity, power and grace, she continues to mesmerize me and make me weak-in-the-knee, for sure.

I love the places she takes me with her music. The physical, mental and spiritual places. Her music penetrates my sensibility and permeates my soul.
