“GRACE AT WORK”

October 10, 2017

Two weeks ago I published a post called, “Shhhh! Genius At Work! (unearthing her GRACE)”.

It is about Lizz Wright’s new CD, “GRACE“, which she recently shared with the world!

For this CD she chose to sing all covers, with the exception of the last song on the CD, a song called “All The Way Here”.

So I’ve been listening to “Grace”, repeatedly, since it came out. I never tire of listening to anything she sings. One of the reasons for that, is because Lizz always does things mindfully and purposely. I believe she doesn’t just pick songs to fill the space. She picks each one for a specific purpose and reason.

Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation

August 28, 2017

I have been a huge fan of Lizz Wright for the past three years and have travelled to see and hear her sing as often as I could. It gives me great pleasure. I admire her and her music.

She offers her talents and gifts to create great musical productions in collaboration with others.

Lizz is socially conscious and lives her own life, in the present, with purpose and meaning. If she takes part in something, you know it will be a worthwhile and an important project or cause.

So, last week, when she announced on her FB page:

“I am dedicated to lifting up the importance of Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation, and I’ll be performing in Chicago this Saturday at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, to honor those who have been devoted to this cause”…….

…….I knew immediately that I wanted to be there to experience it.

We Celebrate You!

August 21, 2017

One day, my grandson seemed to express an interest in my Jaguar.

So, the other day I was trying to teach him how to drive it.

But he just wasn’t catching on to the concept.

However, to his credit, I do have to say that……

Whirlwind Weekend in Aspen, Colorado

July 6, 2017

Last Thursday (June 29th), the day before I was supposed to fly to Aspen, Colorado, for the weekend, it was a hot sunny day here in Seattle.

I rushed home from work, put my gym clothes on, grabbed my basketball, and flew away in my “purrty cat” with the rag top down.

I like playing basketball in the sun and I don’t like to waste even one sunny day by not playing.

When I got there, there was no one on the court.

But the minute I stepped onto the court, about a dozen little kids came from out of nowhere to play too. They had all been there for awhile at the playground, but when I stepped up to the goal, I guess I was their cue, reminding them they wanted to play.

I saw a small rain puddle on the court and I used my foot like a broom to spread the water out so it would dry up quickly. As I did that, I told the kids what I was doing and cautioned them not to get their feet wet or they could slip and fall and hurt themselves badly.

They nodded in agreement.

Then I walked to the top of the key and started to turn around and shoot a jump shot, but my right foot was still a little wet and as I started to turn, it slipped right out from under me, and my whole body was slammed to the ground.

Father’s Day Revisited

June 30, 2017

Last night I was on youtube researching some things and the algorithm led me to Dan Fogelberg.

I hadn’t listened to his music for a while even though I have a lot of it in my iTunes library.

He became popular in the 70’s and was known as one of the important leaders of the soft-rock era.

I always did like him and his music. I liked his thoughtfully-crafted verse, his melodies and harmonies, his gentle-natured ballads, and he played some good ole’ rock n’ roll, too.

In addition to his ability to tell good stories through his songs, he played several instruments well. Music was his passion.

He had a good stage presence, a good sense of humor and engaged with the audience well.

The song I happened upon was “Leader of the Band”, a song he wrote about his Father. It’s one of those songs that, when I listen to it, I can’t get through it to the end without tearing up.

Click on the link above, to listen to the song and to hear what he had to say about his Father.

It’s touching.
