My second post was about Lizz Wright and her genius. At the bottom of the post I said, “Somehow you have hit a nerve in me. I love the essence of who I think you to be.”
When I read it back to myself, I immediately thought it should be a line in a song that I wanted to write about Lizz. That was my “cue”! That was about three weeks ago.
So during that time, I have been muddling it over in my scanner brain and last Tuesday (9/23/14) the song oozed out of me in about an hour and a half. (You can follow the words as you listen to it, below.)
Whenever I am able to write any song, it is always a rapturous feeling to me. So I’d like to share it with you.
I was able to work in the lines from the previous post about Lizz:
“….you are music to my eyes and ears!”
“….Somehow you hit a nerve in me. And I love the essence of who I think you to be.”
I don’t presume to know Lizz. But I admire her from the things I’ve learned about her. My song about her is based solely on the good impressions about her that I’ve gathered in this past, short month I’ve become aware of her.
In the second post, I said I wanted to sing her praises. But in this post, I actually do sing her praises.
I hope you enjoy the song and I hope it makes you want to know more about the beautiful voice, music and person of Lizz Wright.
I call the song “Lizz Wright: The Sweet Honey In The Rock“:
Lizz Wright: The Sweet Honey In The Rock
You’re a good-hearted woman, focused and true
to letting His light shine brightly through you.
You have this gift, you know what to do.
You show who you are and He truly blesses you.
You have a voice, a voice oh so dear.
You have a voice, a voice that drew me near.
And when I watch you sing, and you sing so sincere,
You are such sweet music to my eyes and ears.
I’ve never met you. You don’t know me.
But I feel I know you. I have this affinity.
Somehow you hit a nerve within me.
And I love, the essence of, who I think you to be.
You’re a woman with a vision of where you’d like to go
Your strength and confidence is understated, you never were much one for show.
The moment you start to sing, everyone says so.
Everyone says that’s when the sweet honey starts to ooze and flow.
(Chorus)
You’re a deep-feeling woman, seeking truth, beauty and love.
You try to make the change come but you trust in the power above.
You’re so caring and gentle but you come from strong stock.
All these things make you the sweet honey in the rock.

……………….Here is a second version of the song. It includes an extra verse (the second verse) which refers to how I first heard and became aware of Lizz Wright (as I mentioned in the first post about her):
Lizz Wright: The Sweet Honey In The Rock (includes extra verse)
You’re a good-hearted woman, focused and true
to letting His light shine brightly through you.
You have this gift, you know what to do.
You show who you are and He truly blesses you.
I was enraptured. I had no choice.
You had my attention, and you got it with just your voice.
“Reaching For The Moon” still gives me the chills,
as an empty space in my heart fills.
I’ve never met you. You don’t know me.
But I feel I know you. I have this affinity.
Somehow you hit a nerve within me.
And I love, the essence of, who I think you to be.
You have a voice, a voice oh so dear.
You have a voice, a voice that drew me near.
And when I watch you sing, and you sing so sincere,
You are such sweet music to my eyes and ears.
You’re a woman with a vision of where you’d like to go
Your strength and confidence is understated, you never were much one for show.
