Seems I’m Never Tired Loving You

August 5, 2017

Don’t worry, Nina. She’s gotcha covered!!

That’s what I was thinking as I listened to Lizz Wright‘s newly released cover of Nina Simone‘s song called, “Seems I’m Never Tired Lovin’ You”, a song Lizz has included on her new CD, “Grace”, coming out on September 15.

(You can pre-order her CD on the Lizz Wright link above.)

If you’ve never heard of Nina Simone (shown above, in a picture I downloaded from Nina’s official website), or this song, click on the link below to hear Nina as she sang it years ago. She had a most unique and special talent.

……Seems I’m Never Tired Loving You…..

Then continue reading and listen to Lizz’s cover of the song.

Whirlwind Weekend in Aspen, Colorado

July 6, 2017

Last Thursday (June 29th), the day before I was supposed to fly to Aspen, Colorado, for the weekend, it was a hot sunny day here in Seattle.

I rushed home from work, put my gym clothes on, grabbed my basketball, and flew away in my “purrty cat” with the rag top down.

I like playing basketball in the sun and I don’t like to waste even one sunny day by not playing.

When I got there, there was no one on the court.

But the minute I stepped onto the court, about a dozen little kids came from out of nowhere to play too. They had all been there for awhile at the playground, but when I stepped up to the goal, I guess I was their cue, reminding them they wanted to play.

I saw a small rain puddle on the court and I used my foot like a broom to spread the water out so it would dry up quickly. As I did that, I told the kids what I was doing and cautioned them not to get their feet wet or they could slip and fall and hurt themselves badly.

They nodded in agreement.

Then I walked to the top of the key and started to turn around and shoot a jump shot, but my right foot was still a little wet and as I started to turn, it slipped right out from under me, and my whole body was slammed to the ground.

Father’s Day Revisited

June 30, 2017

Last night I was on youtube researching some things and the algorithm led me to Dan Fogelberg.

I hadn’t listened to his music for a while even though I have a lot of it in my iTunes library.

He became popular in the 70’s and was known as one of the important leaders of the soft-rock era.

I always did like him and his music. I liked his thoughtfully-crafted verse, his melodies and harmonies, his gentle-natured ballads, and he played some good ole’ rock n’ roll, too.

In addition to his ability to tell good stories through his songs, he played several instruments well. Music was his passion.

He had a good stage presence, a good sense of humor and engaged with the audience well.

The song I happened upon was “Leader of the Band”, a song he wrote about his Father. It’s one of those songs that, when I listen to it, I can’t get through it to the end without tearing up.

Click on the link above, to listen to the song and to hear what he had to say about his Father.

It’s touching.

Heartless In Seattle

June 14, 2017

It’s been almost three years now since I first heard Lizz singing on KIXI Radio in Seattle.

She was singing “Reaching For The Moon”, an Ella Fitzgerald song.

I was captured by the first few notes she uttered so perfectly, so pristinely, so passionately, like a beautiful songbird:

🎶 “The moon and you appear to be 🎶 so near and yet so far from me 🎶….”.

That’s when she stole my heart.

That’s when I became “heartless”.   😊

“GOOD FORTUNE”

May 31, 2017

When you choose to be grateful, on a daily basis, it’s easy to see the good fortune that comes your way.

And even when things aren’t going great, you can still find the silver lining there.

It was my good fortune to spend 12 years in South Korea, learning about the language, culture, food, music and art. The Korean spelling for good fortune is…..
