Music has always been important to me. And all my memories about music and anything else start about when I was six years old. Continue Reading…
In the post, “A Fun Year, Musically! (Part 1)”, I wrote about my friend, Kim Tae-gon, who was a popular Korean singer at the time.
Because of his generosity and good nature, I had many fun and interesting experiences that year which I would not have had, had I not met him.
In my previous post I talked about singing a Korean song on a radio station in Korea. This is the story behind that.
When I first went to Korea, the music caught my attention right away. Whenever a specific song “grabbed me”, I would go into the little record shop and ask what the song was and I’d buy the song book that had that song in it, and the tape (what??) or later, the CD.
I wanted to learn to sing it but I couldn’t speak Korean. So I took Basic Korean classes at the Education Center on base and I began learning the alphabet and the pronunciation right away.
I carried out my last assignment in the Air Force from 1991-1994, before retiring. I taught Korean at the Defensive Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, California. It was at that time I designed and built the entertainment center.
Prior to that, I was working in Seoul, Korea, as a Korean translator (1987-1991) at the ROK/US Combined Forces Command HQ.
One night I decided to do a time line of the major events, accomplishments, and special experiences (the good and the bad) of my life. I wanted to review the pivotal moments of my life to see the overall summary it presented.
